How did I get started doing the work that I love?

As a child I was empathetic and observant. I knew from a young age that there was something special about being able to really listen to other people and hold space for them in their vulnerable moments.

After I graduated from college, I taught art in public schools. While I enjoyed teaching, I realized that I wanted to work in a healing profession. In 2008 I graduated with my Masters in Social Work from the University of Connecticut and in 2010 I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

What experience do I have?

I have over 14 years experience providing biopsychosocial assessments and individual, family, and group therapy to children, teens, and adults. My work has taken me into therapeutic group homes, intensive outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs, emergency departments providing crisis assessments, and private practice.

I have experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, bipolar, trauma, ADHD, autism spectrum, and difficulties with social skills. Through each setting I have learned valuable skills as well as what connects us all as humans - the need to be heard, respected, and believed in, especially when we are experiencing our worst.

What is my approach to therapy?

In any setting, my work with clients is based in collaboration. I see therapy as a spiritual practice in the broadest sense as it is a sincere honor to be entrusted with clients’ stories, suffering, hopes and dreams.

My approach is gentle, nonjudgmental, trauma-informed, and culturally-sensitive. I aim to provide a supportive environment in which to help clients better understand themselves and their problems. By building on their strengths, I help clients to address challenges through shifts in perspectives, patterns, and behaviors so that they can function and feel better.

I have received training in multiple treatment methods which I utilize based on clients’ specific needs and interests. These methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Risking Connection Trauma framework, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Mindfulness practices, Emotional Freedom Technique or “tapping" and Brainspotting. I have completed a Mindfulness certificate course as well as my Reiki Master training. I am Level I and II trained in Brainspotting.

What makes me happy?

Being present for my clients brings me great joy. But when I’m not working I enjoy most of all being with my spouse and two kids. I love finding ways to connect with the natural world whether it’s through walking in the woods, taking photographs of the beauty I see around me, or finding ways to be a better steward of our earth.

Each year my garden gets a little bigger and a little more wild. In nature, I find so much comfort and connection through a life energy that is bigger than all of us. There is always something to learn.

I look forward to the opportunity to learn about what matters to you and to help you reach your goals through Wildflower Wellness PLLC.
